Self-driving Freedom

2023

Self-driving Freedom (2023) is a solo exhibition by Otto Martin Moreno featuring three sculptures and six drawings that explore the concept of control in our lives. Using birch plywood carvings, 3D-printed PLA components, and bismuth castings from a late 2000s BMW 135i steering wheel, Moreno examines how drivers interact with road ecosystems governed by structured limitations. His sculpture SelfDrivingFreedom.1 presents an intricate, unconventional form interlocking within a divided BMW steering wheel, digitally rendered to highlight the constraints shaping contemporary society. Through these non-functional objects, the artist invites viewers to reflect on the nature of free will—whether it truly exists or is merely an illusion shaped by predetermined systems.
