El ombligo de la luna

2021

El ombligo de la luna is a stainless steel sculpture featuring three maps of Mexico City geopolitical border. The piece is deformed and reconstructed into a three point volumetric estructure that rests within a vertical plane-arranged at various angles giving the viewer a distorted view of what the object may be a map of. The piece is titled El ombligo de la luna, a Spanish translation for the word Mexico. We should appreciate that the map being depicted has evolved in such a way that we cannot grasp any detail for the initial origin of the city.
